Filming in Brazil
To film in Brazil, a Brazilian production company registered with the Secretaria para o Desenvolvimento Audiovisual (an organ of the Ministry of Culture) must be contacted. A synopsis of the project must then be sent to the Brazilian production company. Based on this synopsis, a budget is established and a contract with the Brazilian production company is signed.
This contract must then be registered with the Agência Nacional do Cinema (ANCINE) along with a list of all non-Brazilian technicians and the dates of their arrival in and departure from Brazil. This list should contain their names, occupation, nationality, passport number (including a photocopy of the relevant page) and salary.
For every three foreigners contracted for any given filming project, one Brazilian must also be contracted. The local employees' contracts should be registered at the Ministry of Labour by the Brazilian production company.
You can download a list of Brazilian production companies in PDF format using the following link:
After the project's approval, ANCINE will contact the Consulate-General in London giving authorisation to proceed.

Taking equipment into Brazil
Journalists are advised to declare at customs, on arrival, any equipment exceeding normal personal luggage items they may be taking into Brazil for professional use and apply for temporary admission of the items. Brazilian Customs may request the traveller to sign a declaration of responsibility, by which the traveller undertakes to remove the goods from the country at the end of their stay.
Please note that the decision on entry of the equipment, as well as the importation rules which apply in each case, rests entirely with Brazilian Customs officials.
If a visa is extended, the visitor must also apply to Customs for an extension of the temporary admission of equipment initially granted.
When leaving the country, the person must nullify at Customs their declaration of responsibility.
Holders of visas valid for more than six months need to have their list of equipment legalised by the Consulate-General of Brazil in London.
