Statement of international support for International Drug Purchase Facility

The Brazilian government has received a statement of international support for the International Drug Purchase Facility (IDPF).

The document – signed by 112 institutions, NGOs and individual specialists working in the area of public health in different regions of the world – praises the leadership and creativity displayed by the governments of Brazil, Chile, France, Norway and the United Kingdom in formulating the IDPF, which was launched in September at United Nations headquarters in New York.

The IDPF will make large-scale purchases of medicines used for treating AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis – the three diseases that have the most serious impact on developing countries – and negotiate reduced prices with their manufacturers.
