Inter-American Development Bank agrees debt relief for Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua

The Committee of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today announced that its members had reached an agreement on a framework for debt relief for Bolivia, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Brazil has been actively supporting the proposal, along with other recent initiatives aimed at the cancellation of debts owed by the most severely indebted poor countries.

With a view to implementing the agreement, Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim has recently had conversations with the president of the IDB, Luis Alberto Moreno, and with US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice.
