25 November 2006
The twelve members of the South American Community of Nations have agreed to allow their citizens to travel between them without passports.
The measure, aimed at boosting tourism and business activity, has been adopted by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Travellers from these countries will now need only an identity card in order to cross borders for up to 90 days.
