US State Department human rights report

With regard to the annual human rights report from the US State Department – which contains criticisms of a number of countries, including Brazil – the Brazilian government reiterates that it does not recognise the legitimacy of reports that are compiled unilaterally according to countries' own individual criteria, and which are often politically influenced. These unilateral attitudes and evaluations are not acceptable, as they are contrary to the principles of universality and non-selectivity in the field of human rights.

Brazil is open to dialogue with all international and regional human rights mechanisms. In the UN Human Rights Council we stand in support of impartial monitoring practices, such as those employed in the Global Report by the UN High Commission for Human Rights. Brazil always welcomes UN human rights special rapporteurs, ensuring they have wide access to interviewees and information. Brazil encourages all countries, including the United States, to adopt the same approach.
