Brazil condemns attack on AU mission in Sudan
04 October 2007
Brazil vehemently condemns the attack carried out on 29 September against installations of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), in which ten members of the mission were killed.
The Brazilian Government expresses its condolences to the African Union, to the governments of the countries whose citizens were killed in defence of peace, and to the families of the victims.
The AMIS, an African Union peacekeeping force authorized by the UN Security Council, performs a vital role in the efforts being made by the international community to overcome the conflicts taking place in Darfur. Brazil underlines its firm condemnation of any act perpetrated against the mission, and reiterates its view that only political dialogue can bring normalization and sustainable peace in Sudan.
