The Brazilian government is following the political situation in Zimbabwe with concern. Brazil has noted the opinion expressed by the Southern African Development Community that 'if the election were to be held under present circumstances, it would compromise the credibility and legitimacy of the results'.

Brazil expresses the expectation that all those involved, particularly the government of Zimbabwe, avoid any action that could further worsen the situation, so as to permit a rapid return to normality and the possibility of elections free from any form of pressure and coercion.
