Amorim says foreign policy endorsed by Lula victory
30 October 2006
Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim said today that the country will forge ahead with the key elements of its foreign policy during President Lula’s second term of office, building on the achievements of the first term such as the creation of the G-20, Brazil’s participation in the G-8, and the spectacular increase in exports.
He mentioned the strengthening of Mercosur and the pursuit of closer relations with the African continent, and also predicted that Latin America will become Brazil’s principal export market.
Given that it was frequently debated by the candidates in the run-up to the presidential election, Amorim also feels Brazil’s foreign policy has been strongly endorsed by Lula’s victory.
