The Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, will be the keynote speaker at the Lloyd's of London City Dinner on Thursday 4 September, following a tradition of distinguished speakers that includes the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (2007) and the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong (2006).

During his visit, from 1 to 5 September, Governor Cabral will be heading a multi-sector delegation aiming to promote new business opportunities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which has been one of the engines behind Brazil's economic growth.

Governor Cabral expects to establish technical, scientific, educational and commercial cooperation agreements, and has scheduled meetings with a wide range of British government representatives and UK businesses.

On Tuesday 2 September, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, David Lewis, will be hosting a UK-Brazil business forum at the Mansion House from 10am to 6pm. The event includes presentations by the Lord Mayor; Andrew Cahn, CEO of UK Trade & Investment; Governor Cabral; Julio Bueno, Rio de Janeiro State Secretary for Economic Development, Energy, Industry and Services; and Joaquim Levy, Rio de Janeiro State Secretary for Finance. In the afternoon Brazilian and UK businesses will hold one-to-one meetings.

After the Mansion House presentations on 2 September, Governor Cabral will attend a press conference from 12.40pm to 1pm. Journalists interested in attending should confirm in advance and arrive at the Mansion House conference room by 12.20pm.

GOVERNOR SÉRGIO CABRAL
Sérgio Cabral trained as a journalist. In 1987 he took his first public office position as director of operations for the Rio de Janeiro Tourism Company. He was elected a member of the Rio de Janeiro state council for three terms (1990, 1994, 1998), and chaired it for eight years (1994-2002). In 2002 he was elected Senator, and in 2006 he was elected Governor of Rio de Janeiro.
