Brazilian economy in 'good shape' – IMF

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn, said this week that the Brazilian economy has been strengthened by the implementation of ‘the right policy’ in recent years.

Strauss-Kahn believes Brazil is in ‘good shape’, although the country is unlikely to be ‘immune’ to a global slowdown in economic growth.

The IMF forecasts that Brazil’s overall economic growth in 2008 will be 5.2%, but has made a less optimistic prediction of 3.9% for 2009.
