Canning House Essay Competition: Portuguese and Spanish – GCSE level


On Tuesday 24 March Canning House held a prize-giving ceremony for the winner of the Portuguese and Spanish Language Essay Competition.

The ceremony was conducted by Vice-President of Canning House, Baroness Hooper GMG, and among those present were the writer and broadcaster Michael Portillo, the Director of Language Studies at City University, Professor Tim Connell, and a representative of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of Brazil in London.

The first prize for the Portuguese Essay was won by Monica Marques, who chose Eva Peron as her subject, and the second prize by Victoria Symington, who wrote about President Lula of Brazil.
