Internet access rising rapidly in Brazil
19 September 2008
Figures from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística – IBGE) reveal that one in five Brazilian households had access to the internet in 2007.
Of the 56.3 million households in Brazil, the IBGE survey found that 26.6 million (47%) owned a computer, and 11.4 million (20%) had internet access.
This represents a significant increase in comparison with 2001, the first year in which the IBGE included internet access in its surveys, when only 4 million Brazilian households were online.
